FAQs

Purchasing a car

How can I purchase a car?

  • If you wish to purchase a car from inventory via a bank transfer, you will reach out to allthingzjdm@gmail.com with your details. Alternately, you can checkout via the website using a credit card (2.9% applicable processing fee included) and either reach out to allthingzjdm@gmail.com or wait for EATZ to reach out to you!

  • If you would like to purchase a car from auction, then please do the following:
    • Research your car and the costs of buying a car from auction to ensure a smooth transaction.
    • Make sure you have your funds ready (including deposit).
    • Once you’ve identified the car you want to buy (and from which auction site) provide EATZ with the following:
      • Auction link
      • Maximum bid
      • Time remaining on auction
    • The 2 most commonly used auction sites are below:

After I buy a car, what happens next?

After payment is finalized, EATZ will ensure all exporting tasks are completed (including but not limited to): deregistration of car, export certificate creation/translation, invoicing, and shipment scheduling with a carrier.

After a freightliner is lined up and scheduled, your final notice that the car is on its way will be a Bill of Lading sent to you confirming the vehicle is on the ship (once you receive this, you will want to reach out to your import broker).

Your broker will then work with the shipping company to get you an estimated time of arrival into the port as well as confirm (once docked) the vehicle release date. Once your car is released your broker will send you all documentation including EPA and NHTSA clearance paperwork.

Once you have all paperwork in hand you can hire a transporter or attempt to retrieve your car from the port yourself. If you opt for the latter, all ports have differing requirements for entry ranging from $1M+ commercial insurance coverage, TWIC card requirements, or a paid escort. Also, you need to be aware that the absolute minimal amount of gas will be in the tank and 99% of the time ocean travel will have rendered a flooded lead acid battery discharged at the minimum or completely in need of replacement in the worst case. You will want to ensure to have a jump box and have found the absolute closest gas station with the highest-octane gas or one that offers "Ethanol Free" gas.

***We currently do not have an EATZ recommended broker, but you can utilize Google or the search feature in the Facebook group to find other members recommendations and experiences***

Shipping a car

Can I ship any car to the USA, Puerto Rico or Canada?

  • USA
    • Cars being shipped to America must be at least 25 years or older based on the manufacture date stamp on the VIN plate. EATZ does provide storage options in Japan if you wish to purchase a newer vehicle and wait for it to become legally importable.
  • Puerto Rico
    • Although there are no strict laws regarding the age of imported cars, registering older cars tends to be more expensive.
  • Canada
    • Cars being shipped to Canada must be at least 15 years or older based on the manufacture date stamp on the VIN plate. EATZ does provide storage options in Japan if you wish to purchase a newer vehicle and wait for it to become legally importable.

How much does it cost to ship a car?

Shipping rates are highly variable due to many external factors. This is why EATZ can only let you know the shipping costs during the purchase interaction. Unfortunately, there is no standardized answer to this question.

How long does it take to ship a car?

From the time of purchase to the time of unloading at US side port can take (on average) between 6-10 weeks if there are no major snags or scheduling issues.

Can you install parts before shipping?

Yes, we can install parts and much more! From basic car maintenance to full builds (and AllThingZ in between), we can provide a variety of services before a car is shipped. Please reach out to EATZ with any special requests.

Ordering Parts

How can I order parts from Japan?

  • Use any of the following websites to source your parts:
  • Once you find the parts you’re interested in, send all links and your shipping address to allthingzjdm@gmail.com
    • Please indicate the max bid for each item or if you would like to ‘buy-now’.
  • Once confirmed, payment will be needed in advance before bidding or purchasing any item. You will be refunded in the event you don’t win the auction.
  • Here’s a video with tips on how to source parts:
  • Can you cancel my bid?
    • Only if there is ample time before the auction ends and you are not currently the winning bidder.

After I buy parts, what happens next?

Once EATZ receives/procures your requested parts, we will package as securely as possible to reasonably prevent any shipping damage from occurring. Before an item is shipped, all balances must be paid in full. After it’s shipped, we’ll provide a tracking number.

    Costs

    How much is container shipping?

    • Shipping any item through our container is a flat fee of $250 per item/set
    • This price does not include service fees and taxes.
    • Containers are FOB (Free on Board) to the destination location (not to your door). This means once the container reaches its destination the buyer is still responsible for picking up the parts (FREE) or arranging for domestic shipping via the EATZ contact receiving the container itself.
    • Shipping from the container offload point to your door WILL require additional shipping and handling fees once your parts are packaged separately for domestic shipping.

How else can parts be shipped to me?

We do offer door-to-door shipping as well for most non-prohibited items. Costs varies based on item(s) dimensions, weight, and carrier used for shipping.

    Payment

We take the following payment methods:

    • Zelle
    • Wire Transfer
    • AllThingZJDM.com pre-purchased credits
